Useful herbs

Abelmoschus esculentus

Gonorrhoea and problems with the urogenital system (mucilage of fruit); catarrh and throat problems (fruit capsule); as a poultice (leaf and fruit capsule); gonorrhea (roots and leaves);the immature capsules is demulcent, diuretic and emollient; the seeds are antispasmodic, cordial, stimulant and allay thirst, cure stomatitis, dyspepsia, urinary discharge,leucoderma and itch.

Artemisia abrotanum

Improves digestion and liver function by increasing secretions in the stomach and intestines, it stimulates the uterus and encourages menstrual flow, lowers fevers, relaxes spasms and destroys intestinal worms (plant)

Citrus aurantifolia

In indigestion and as an anthelmintic (fruit juice). Both the leaves and the flowers are antispasmodic, digestive and sedative, in the treatment of stomach problems, sluggish digestion, dyspepsia, constipation, abdominal distension, stuffy sensation in the chest, prolapse of the uterus, rectum and stomach. The seed and the pericarp are used in the treatment of anorexia, chest pains, colds, coughs etc.

Coptis chinensis

Controls bacterial and viral infections, relaxes spasms, lowers fevers and stimulates the circulation, for diarrhoea, acute enteritis and dysentery, insomnia, fidget, delirium due to high fever, leukaemia, otitis media, acne, boils, abscesses and burns whilst it is also used as a gargle for mouth and tongue ulcers, swollen gums and toothache (root).

Coptis teeta

Efficacious in debility, atonic dyspepsia and in mild forms of intermittent fevers. It is also used as a salve for the eyes; controls bacterial and viral infections, relaxes spasms, lowers fevers and stimulates the circulation (roots)

Ferula narthex

It is used in the treatment of asthma, whooping cough, flatulent colic, and in pneumonia and bronchitis in children. The leaves are carminative and diaphoretic. The plant is identified as a potential contraceptive.

Hyoscyamus muticus

As an anticholinergic agent and alleviating spasms (plant).

Linum usitatissimum

For increasing nerve strength and as a cardiac tonic (flower); gout and rheumatism (seed oil); cancer, colds, constipation, corns, cough, intoxication, pulmonary disorders, sclerosis, spasms, tumors, gallstones, urogenital diseases and as a poultice, soothes irritated tissues, controls coughing and relieves pain.

Mentha piperita

Stomach problems (including colic), gall bladder pains, nausea and as a stimulant (plant); headache and local aches (leaf); diuretic, alleviating spasms and as an expectorant (during colds). The anti-spasmodic quality relieves pain arising in the alimentary canal. Due to its stimulating, stomachic and carminative properties, it is effective in treating certain forms of dyspepsia, flatulence and colic. Peppermint tea is used also for palpitation of the heart. In cases of hysteria and nervous disorders, an infusion of Peppermint is administered.

Nicotiana tobacum

Alleviating spasms, as a sedative, for swolen areas (due to rheumatism) and skin diseases (leaf); toothache (seed); used externally in the treatment of rheumatic swelling, skin diseases and scorpion stings; applied to stings in order to relieve the pain (wet tobacco leaves).

Onosma bracteatum

For reducing fever and alleviating spasms. A decoction is used in the treatment of rheumatism, syphilis and leprosy. The plant is considered to be useful in relieving excessive thirst and restlessness in febrile excitement, and also to be useful in relieving functional palpitation of the heart, irritation of the bladder and stomach, and strangury.

Origanum majorana

Asthma, common cold, bruises, cancer, insomnia, migraine, spasms, women's ailments, digestive disorders, to treat muscular pain, bronchial complaints, arthritis, sprains and stiff joints

Panax quinquefolium

Reducing fever, as a carminative, tonic and stimulant (root); in children's ailments, nausea, nervousness, obesity, rheumatism, tuberculosis and venereal diseases; maladies of the gastrointestinal tract, kidney, liver, lung and repiratory tract, mouth and skin.

Peganum harmala

Asthma, uterine cancer, fever, laryngitis, malaria, menstrual disorders, problems with lice, Parkinson's disease, rheumatism, as a vermifuge, tonic, aphrodisiac, alleviating spasms and as a narcotic and emmenagogue.

Perilla frutescens

For alleviating spasms, as a sedative, antiasthmatic, stimulating the secretion of gastric juices and as a tonic (plant); colds, chest stuffiness, vomiting, abdominal pain etc (leaves); to cuts and wounds (leaf juice); for morning sickness (stem)

Piper betle

Increasing the secretion of gastric juices (leaf); alleviating spasms and as an antiseptic (essential oil); abscesses, sores and cuts, asthma, bronchitis, cancer, catarrh, colic, cough, diphtheria, dysentery, earache and nose.

Potentilla anserina

In chronic diarrhea, alleviating spasms, to stop excessive and painful flow of menses, for intestinal troubles, leucorrhoea, kidney stones, arthritis and cramps(plant); for inflamed gums.

Primula vulgaris

In treating conditions involving spasms, cramps, paralysis, gout and rheumatic pains.

Rosa webbiana

It is being investigated as a food that is capable of reducing the incidence of cancer and also as a means of halting or reversing the growth of cancers.It is also used as an antispasmodic agent.

Salvia officinalis

In upper respiratory tract inflammations, digestive disorders, as a tonic, in reducing fever, nausea, alleviating spasms, and in skin diseases and irregular menstruation; for the treatment of thrush and gingivitis (oil); as a gargle in the treatment of sore-throats (leaves)

Salvia plebeia

As an anthelmintic, diuretic and astringent (plant); for alleviating spasms and as a tonic, in treating diarrhoea, gonorrhoea, menorrhagia and haemorrhoids (seed); relieving toothache pain (leaf).

Zingiber officinalis

A household remedy for flatulence and colic, for diarrhoea from relaxed bowel where there is no inflammation, for atherosclerosis, heart disease, chemotherapy support, migraine headaches, morning sickness, motion sickness, nausea and vomiting following surgery, rheumatoid arthritis, belching, laryngitis, vomiting, constipation, incontinence, flatulence, colic, spasms, fever, eye diseases, asthma, colds, cough, arthritis, bursitis, fibrocystic breasts, lymphedema, in nervous diseases, and for incontinence of urine.
